Silicone Fluids
Silicone fluids, also referred to as silicone oils, dimethicone or polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), are made through a complex process of converting quartz (sand) to silicon metal (Si) then hydrolysis followed by polymerisation. The resulting silicone fluids have the following base structure:

Flexichem Silicone Fluids
A full range of silicone fluids or polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) are available from Flexichem, ranging from 0.65 cSt through to 300,000 cSt and beyond through to silicone gums.
Additionally, Flexichem manufacture a range of functional siloxanes such as Amino, Epoxy, Mercapto, and solvent solutions of any base fluid.

Cyclic silicones or cyclomethicones such as cyclotetrasiloxane more commonly known as D4 and cyclopentasiloxane (D5) are made in the same manner as silicone fluid however stop at the polymerisation step.
Cyclomethicones are very low viscosity silicone fluids with high volatility. It is these properties that lend these products ideal for use in personal care applications as they can be used as carriers which evaporate without leaving residue wile imparting lubricity and detackification. Further properties of cyclomethicones are provided below.
